Fig. 1. The steamed ginger extract (GGE03) inhibits the growth of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and has no cytotoxic effect in AGS cells. (A) H. pylori strains (ATCC 43504; ATCC, Manassas, VA, USA) were grown on tryptic soy agar plate with 5% sheep blood containing indicated concentrations of GE or GGE03 (10 and 100 mg/mL). H. pylori with GE and GGE03 were determined after 72 hours of incubation. The diameters were calculated against inhibition zone. The results were evaluated by ANOVA. Data are the mean ± SD (n = 3). Statistical significance was analyzed by ANOVA. *P < 0.05 and ***P < 0.001 compared to control. (B) AGS cells were treated with GE and GGE03 at indicated concentrations for 24 hours and cell viability was measured by the MTT assay.
