Superoxide and hydrogen peroxide are generated through various enzymatic reactions whereas hydroxyl radicals are produced via chemical reactions. Enzymatic bypass reactions indicate direct decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to water by a variety of enzymes, such as catalase and glutathione peroxidase. Hydroxyl radicals are closely associated with ferroptosis, which is counteracted by sulfhydryls (-SH).
